I use a mindfulness-based cognitive therapy approach, in which I help people tap into strengths so that they can solve problems in their lives. I believe every person has a natural capacity for healing that once uncovered results in better mental and physical health. I believe it is critical to address the whole person so that mental, physical, and spiritual needs are met.
I am an EMDR-trained therapist as well. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an approach to psychotherapy that integrates multiple theories of change and is been proven effective for the treatment of trauma, as well as complicated grief, phobias, and other mental health issues.
In addition, I am certified as a HeartMath practitioner. HeartMath is a biofeedback system that helps people learn to regulate their heart rhythms in order to manage stress. Studies have shown HeartMath to be an effective tool in making sustained behavioral changes, such as improving learning and study habits, changing exercise and diet practices, and eliminating substance use. See http://www.heartmath.org/ for more information.
My goal is to provide counseling that promotes a higher quality of life. My hope is that my clients will find increased clarity regarding their values, needs, and goals; that they will recognize their own strengths and resiliency; that they will increase their skills for managing and reducing stress; and that they will make life changes that lead to greater well-being.
